UPDATED REUNION INFORMATION
Calling all RU grads!  The fourth annual Young Horse Program reunion will be held at the Colt's Neck Trail Riders Poker Pace at Bucks Mill Park in Colts Neck, NJ on
Saturday August 1, 2015.
Teams pay $10 per poker hand (1 per rider, but you can purchase more if you want!) and go out searching for buckets of poker chips hidden along the trails in the park.  Once teams get one chip of each color, they come back and are dealt a hand of cards.  The best hand wins 50% of the take!  The first teams leave at 3pm and the last teams leave at 6pm.

Grads do not have to compete!! Feel free to come and simply visit with other grads and their horses.  There is always a potluck buffet plus hamburgers and hotdogs (and great people!) afterwards.  This is always a fun event!

We will be trying to get as many photos of our grads as possible! Anyone who brings their grad will recieve one of our stunning black with red piping RU Grad saddle pads (shown on RU Sirius further down this page).

PLEASE RSVP TO DR. RALSTON

**ADDITIONAL NOTES**
The CNTRC requires current proof of a negative Coggins test.
Water is available from a hose at the main building.
Parking can be very tight- please let Dr. Ralston know if you need a trailer ride for your horse.
Bring a friend!

The Reunion at Bucks Mill Park in Colts Neck was a great success!

Left to Right: RU Prodigal Son, RU Turkleton, RU Sir Galahad, RU Miss Kitty

We had 19 equine graduates , 17 of them ridden on the trails with all years except '05: Miss Genie ('00), Galahad and Sydney ('01), Miss Kitty ('02), Blaze ('03),
T
ootsiepop and Hip Hip Hooray (Hippie) ('04),
Cluedo ('06), Fiona ('07)
, Turkleton ('08), My Fair Lady (Eliza), Hank Jr, Sir Lionel and Evita (Bonnie Jean) all from '09, Firedance ('10) and mustangs Sierra and Santana from 2011! Owners with out horses showed up to brag about Jasmine ('05), Prince Phillip (Lars)  ('06), Huckleberry (Gus) and
Santiago('07), Honky Tonk (Now Col.Hank Rutgers) and Woodstock, ('10) in addition to students Lexey Booth, Rebekah Verdieck and Kevin Brewer who helped with saddle pad sales and photography. Dr. Malinowski came with her RU Grad friend, Wendy Gale, riding their Standardbreds; long time supporters, Susan and John Samtak, brought their paso finos. Over all, with 70+ registered participants and $1090.00 in the Poker Pace "pot" it was a very successful event! The winner of the poker hands turned out to be a Rutgers graduate who then donated a portion of her win to the program. We made $680 in sale of the pads and donations! Proceeds will be used to support the new NJHorseInformation endeavor (See above).

Liz Durkin received the Spirit of the Horse award from the
Equine Science Center at the Equine Science Center Update on
December 8th.  This award
"recognizes individuals whose lives have been
profoundly changed because of their involvement with horses and who have
acknowledged the impact by giving back to the horse industry."
Click here to read the full article about the Spirit of the Horse Award.
Liz Durkin sponsored mustang RU Levi last year and continues to sponsor his care at New Bolton Center.  She has sponsored numerous horses throughout the life of the Young Horse Program and owns several herself.  We are extremely grateful for all that  Ms. Durkin has contributed to the Young Horse Program and are thrilled that she received this award.

Robin Rivello and her husband Mike!
-New updates on the Graduates pages

October 3, 2011
The research focus this year will be on the research performed in the previous years.  We have two GH Cook students, Soo Jin Park and Divya Ramnath.  Divya is busy analyzing the recorded behavior tests to determine the effects of diet on behavioral response to standardized tests and training in young horses.  The videos and evaluations will be archived and available through RUCore-- stay tuned!  Soo Jin is working on NMR-based metabonomic evaluation of serum in order to identify young horses predisposed to osteochondrosis dessicans and hopefully discover the metabolic defect.

We will also be overhauling the website.  Please send us updates on graduates!

August 3, 2011
There will be no horses purchased for the program this upcoming fall but stay tuned for events and updates! We are receiving frequent reports on our newest graduates (i.e.: Koda, Sierra and ShyAnne are all started under saddle and doing exceptionally well!) and will be updating the site regularly throughout the year.
